[:en]Paranormal phenomena usually appear in scant evidence and dubious testimonies. The phenomena of cadaveric incorruptibility, despite being an accepted case, is an exposed evidence that certainly challenges nature. This inexplicable preservation is very different from the known methods of mummification because the body can be kept flexible, exhibit a pleasant aroma, contain fresh blood and in some cases a light that is kept around it has been reported.

Cadaveric Incorruptibility Factors

Cadaveric incorruptibility is a phenomenon that can be considered almost exclusive in the Christian community. While there have been cases of well-preserved bodies in the Buddhist culture, many of these are due to mummification processes. There are different scientific theories for about the processes occurred in the body to reach the state of uncorruption. Among them we can mention oxygen isolation, petrification, adipocyte and chlorification. All of these methods can help preserve the body but do not respond to many of the effects described.

An incorrupt body can be defined as the body of some person who, after dying, remains just as it was appreciated in life. The Catholic Church considers this phenomenon as a sign of holiness in people dedicated to Christianity. They are considered relics for veneration. It is worth mentioning that incorruptibility can be partially presented, as in the case of San Antonio de Padua, whose language remains undisturbed. In other cases, incorruptibility lasts several years and then begins to decompose.

Three cases of Incorruptible Bodies

Below I will present three incredible cases of this phenomenon:

  • St. Bernadette Soubirous – As a child, the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception appeared to her. At 35 years of age, she dies after her last words were: I’ve seen her again. How beautiful she is! Mother, pray for me that I am a sinner. Thirty years later his corpse was unearthed and his body remained incorrupt. However, the crucifix and the rosary he wore were rusted. At the moment its rest are in a crystal reliquary in the old chapel San Gildard de Nevers.

Cuerpo incorrupto de San Pío de Pietrelcina
  • St. Pio of Pietrelcina- Many miracles are attributed to him, which may include: bilocation, healing, smell of flowers in his presence, stigmas and ability to read consciences. When he was close to his death, the stigmas that were with him for almost 50 years began to heal to the point of barely noticeable. Your body currently remains exposed in perfect condition.

  • St. Charbel de Makhlouf– His body was buried without a coffin as determined by his order. However, in a flood his body was found floating in his grave without any sign of decomposition. Currently his body remains uncorrupted and flexible as when he was alive. It is said that his body emitted a flower fragrance.

Phenomena that occur together with Cadaveric Incorruptibility

  • Fresh blood- Emanation of blood many years after his death. Fresh blood flowed from an amputated finger nine months after the death of San Juan de la Cruz.
  • Light- The area where the bodies are found in many cases has an illumination. In the case of San Charbel de Makhlouf, it is said that the tomb where he was staying was illuminated for 45 nights after his death.
  • Fragance- Also known as osmogenesis. The body emits a pleasant fragrance, usually associated with the smell of roses. Although in many cases of saints occurred, not all of them remain.
  • Flexibility- When dying, the body begins to become rigid. The incorrupt bodies defy such rigidity and spend flexible time. A significant case is that of San Juan de la Cruz who died in 1591.

Conclusions

Studying the numerous cases of cadaveric incorruptibility it is almost impossible not to be astonished by this phenomenon. While we have known of many supernatural cases, the case of incorrupt bodies is exposed to the sight of many believers and skeptics. Without a doubt, it is a mystery that everyone must reach their own conclusions.
